Enjoy some wine with the vintner
This Fall we are tasting wines primarily from the 2009 vintage (the best ever in my opinion). A dry, moderate season combined with a moderate crop (1.5 tons/acre average) gave us wines with complex, full flavors at a wide range of alcohol levels (13.6% – 16.2%). Due to the warm Arizona summer and to protect your wine purchase, Callaghan Vineyards can only ship our products during the fall and winter months – November to March.
Red Wines
-
Caitlin’s 2009$50 per bottle, limit 360% Petit Verdot/40% Merlot and both Cabernets. 22 months in 100% new French and Polish oak. Extremely deep, powerful aromas of spicy black fruit (blackberry and black cherry), earth and melted chocolate. Deep and powerful in the mouth, with full flavor expression through the mid-palate and finish. Although fairly drinkable now with steak or lamb, this will benefit from another 5-6 years in the bottle. 70 cases produced.
-
Padres 2009$38 per bottle60% Tempranillo, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah. Fleshy, sexy wine. Shows more Grenache influence than one might expect.
-
Claire’s 2009$38 per bottle55% Mourvedre/45% Grenache. 23 months in neutral 500 liter puncheons, sur lie. Expressive aromas of spiced strawberry, cherry liqueur and pepper. Mouth-filling, with some textural sweetness that is tempered by acid/tannin synergy in the finish. Powerful, but fresh and classy.
-
Mourvedre 2009$31/btl85% Mourvedre, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Expressive aromas of red cherry/cranberry, earth, cinnamon. Deceptively light feel in the mouth. Red fruit and “Red Hot” flavors linger. Beautiful choice for turkey.
