Pallieres “Les Racines” Gigondas 2009

Posted on

Light red.

PallieresVinturi – Fragrant, fresh, lifted nose – red cherry/strawberry/raspberry, earth/hazelnut and a hint of onion.

Round and sensuous with very good mid-palate flesh. Mouthwatering acidity keeps it focused and bright. Way too easy to drink. Best over the next 5-6 years I’d guess.

$50 at Rumrunner in Tucson. 80% Grenache, 8% Syrah, 7% Cinsault and 5% Clairette. A domaine jointly owned by the Brunier family of Vieux Telegraphe and importer Kermit Lynch

Straw/green.

Nigl Freiheit Gruner Veltliner

Lemon, lime and pear nose – ripe and fleshy.

Much tighter in the mouth – mouthwatering acidity with a boost from residual CO2. Lemon/lime flavors with a powdered stone tactile impression. Another great summer drink..

$24 at Time Market in Tucson. Nigl

Triennes, Rose’, Mediterrannee 2012

Pale pink.

Triennes Rose

Delicate floral strawberry and cherry nose with hints of citrus and fresh herb.

Broad, soft and yet minerally simultaneously. Extremely easy to drink and refreshing with citrus and strawberry flavors nicely cut  by mineral/acid “chew”. Love this stuff.

$20 at Time Market in Tucson. Triennes

Red/purple.

Double decanted. Reticent but deep nose – spicy ketchup, hazelnut/oak spice, woodsmoke, raspberry, bacon, menthol… Lots going on here.

Dense, but lean and tightly wound. Smoke, herb and ketchup flavors – this needs several more years to unfold. Loaded though.

$60  St. Cosme

Straw/light yellow

Pungent herb/bell pepper/jalapeno, grapefruit and melon nose. Vivid and complex.

Wildly vibrant in the mouth, with herb and grapefruit flavors reverberating. Tanzer’s “inner-mouth perfume”. Strong acidity and mineral finish coats the front teeth. Absolutely delicious and interesting. Great summer drinking and would do very well at the table.

$23 at Time Market in Tucson. Fouassier

Mogador, Priorat 2003

Deep red.

mogador 2003

Vinturi – integrated, dense nose of black raspberry, pepper, shoe polish, earth and hazelnut.

Round, plush and densely packed. Huge, grainy tannin/flavor pixel count and manages to show some textural sweetness. Acid/tannin synergy ultimately shuts down the front teeth. Needs some serious lamb stew.

$50   Clos Mogador

Acentor, Garnacha, Calatayud 2011

Saturated purple/red.

Acentor

Opened yesterday – big, deep nose of blackberry/black raspberry coulis, crushed mint, earth and spice. Great aromatics.

Round, saturated palate impression, flavors mirroring nose. Very nicely balanced with acid/mineral spine keeping flavors vibrant. Blackberry and “mineral” finishing flavors. RFG and should improve with 3-5 more years in the bottle.

$15 at Time Market in Tucson. 100% fermented and aged in stainless steel.
